2001 Boys Macron Galway Cup Plate Final

Well done to the club's U-14's who won the plate final at the Macron Galway Cup in Drom on Saturday morning.
In a very evenly matched game between the two sides, Hakem Ryan headed Mervue in front before the Kerry League leveled matters before the break to leave it 1-1 at the interval.
The Kerry League then hit the front early in the second half and looked like holding that lead until Colin Kelly struck his sixth goal of the week from a free-kick to level the game at 2-2 with just two minutes remaining.
With the sides level at the end of normal time it was straight to penalties were it took a sudden death winning penalty from Sean O'Brien to hand Mervue's U-14's the win and a first trophy of the new season for the club.
