Mervue Utd 2-1 Park Villa (U12 SFAI Norton Cup) 2nd February 2013
A goal in each half from the home side was enough to see them through to the last sixteen of the Irish cup after an excellent 2-1 win over Meath side Park Villa at Mervue II on Saturday afternoon.
Charlie Phillipe gave the home side the perfect start with an early lead on five minutes running onto a Colin Kelly ball and firing a low effort into the corner for a 1-0 lead which they held to the break.
In a very exciting game it was end to end stuff as both sides really went at each other with attacking play but found both goalkeepers in excellent form as both produced numerous good saves.
Mervue did double their lead 12 minutes after the break following a foul on Andrin Adeeko they were awarded a freekick outside the box. Colin Kelly, who was outstanding throughout for the home team, struck a brillant effort which Villa keeper Ewan Nevin could only parry into the path of Mark O'Brien who slotted into the empty net for 2-0 on 42 minutes.
Nevin then prevented the home side making it 3-0 a few minutes later when he got down well to push Adeeko's well struck effort around the post for a corner following another excellent ball from Kelly to set up the striker.
The vistors did pull a goal back three minutes into injury time when winger Ryan Gallagher struck a brillant freekick into the top corner past Robert Carr who had a brillant game for the home side with some great saves and ball handling.
Pa Connell and Coley Kelly's side now have a home tie in the last sixteen against Freebooters of Kilkenny or Naas.
