Girls U12 WFAI Cup Champions   07/10/2018

Congratulations to club's U12 Girls squad who captured the WFAI Women U12 National Cup after some excellent performances at the AUL Complex in Dublin on Saturday.

The Mervue United girls began the day winning 2-0 against Tullamore and followed it up with a 1-0 win over St Pats in the group stage games. A scoreless draw against Middletown from Cork was enough for the girls to top the group and qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-final they came out on top in a dreaded penalty shootout against Galway City rivals, Salthill Devon after another scoreless draw. Goalkeeper Leah O'Connor proved to be the hero as she saved two Salthill Devon penalties in the shootout for Mervue to advance to the final.

In the final the girls faced Kerry side, Kilarney Celtic, and in a very tight competitive game it took a very late goal from Skye Corcoran to see Mervue United win 1-0 and be crowned WFAI Women's U-12 National Champions.

Well done to coaches Ann Carr Regan and Lorraine Corcoran and all the girls in the squad on a fantastic achievement.
