U13's Advance to 4th Round in SFAI Cup   03/11/2014

U-13 SFAI Troy Cup
MervueUtd 3-2 Castlebar Celtic

The club's U13's progressed to the fourth round of the Irish cup after a great team performance saw them edge a 3-2 win over Castlebar Celtic at a very wet Fahy's Field on Saturday afternoon.

Having lost out to the Mayo side at the same stage of the competition last year the home side were gaining revenge for a 3-2 defeat by Castlebar in last year's Irish cup.

Mervue took the lead though a goal from Lewis Waweru in the opening half but the visitors levelled matters just before the break to leave it all square at 1-1.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges of the second half and created several great opportunities to get back in front as they pushed forward at every opportunity putting the Castlebar defence under pressure.

The visitors cleared the ball off the line twice in the same attack before Charlie Concannon eventually found the net to make it 2-1 and give the home side a deserved lead once again.

But with four minutes remaining Castlebar drew level once again as they made it 2-2 but in a dramatic finish the home side were awarded a penalty a minute from full time after Joey Cosgrove was fouled in the box.

Young Ryan Corcoran showed nerves of steel as he slotted home the resultant spot kick for the winning goal and a 3-2 win to advance to round four of the national cup.

They now face an away trip to Colga FC, who defeated Tuam Celtic 3-0, in the fourth round with the winners of that tie through to the national open draw for the last 32.
