U16 B's Record Excellent Away Win   20/10/2014

Mervue Utd B 6-1 Oughterard (Scorers; Aaron Connelly(3), William Ikemna-Nwosa, James Cahill, Nathan Unorka)

Mervue Utd's U-16 B’s moved top of the table with a hard fought away win over Oughterard in this Division Two league game on Sunday. They started off poorly on a very big pitch and struggled for the first 20 minutes.

Mervue got caught on the break after 10 minutes and went a goal down but almost equalised 10 minutes later after some great work by Daniel Corbett and Adam Healy saw the latter hit a great cross which was waiting to be tapped in.

Aaron Connelly went close with a great shot while a brilliant dribble by Dems Henok saw his effort saved. A great tackle by Padraig Cooney saw a promising Oughterard stopped. Mervue then equalised when good work on the left saw Cian Dunleavy and Daniel Corbett combine to send Adam Healy through and his cross was volleyed in to the top corner by Aaron Connelly.

Aaron Connelly, Patrick Oyelola  and Alex Shmidt both came close to giving their side the lead. Oughterard continued to offer a threat and keeper Dylan Gallagher made some good saves ably assisted by his back four of Jordan Devery, Padraig Cooney, Daniel Healy and Daniel Corbett with great help from midfielders Cian Dunleavy and Alex Schmidt.

Mervue brought on fresh legs at half time and totally dominated the second half attacking the opposition from the start passing the ball with purpose and took the lead 10 minutes after the restart when Padraig Cooney found Alex Shmidt who played in Jayden O’Malley who hit a great cross for Aaron Connelly to score.

Another excellent Mervue move saw Daniel Healy, Cian Dunleavy, Jayden O’ Malley, and Daniel Corbett all involved as Adam Healy crossed for William Ikemna-Nwosa to expertly side foot the third in from the edge of the area.

Aaron Connelly saw another shot saved by the goalie and some brilliant skill from Adam Healy saw him put full back Daniel Corbett through only for the Oughterard goalkeeper to make another excellent save.

Then great work from Alex Schmidt saw Jordan Devery with a tremendous overlap to drive a shot in to the side netting. Aaron Conneely got his deserved hat trick with a header from an Alex Shmidt cross to make it 4-1.

Then great work from Jayden O’ Malley saw him chip a great cross over the keeper for James Cahill to power a header in to the net for 5-1.

Nathan Unorka completed the scoring with the sixth with a deft header after more great build up play and some fine work from Bryan Healy. A great second half display and some fine football from this Mervue side.
