Over 35's Masters League Final
Mervue Utd 2-1 West Utd

The club's Over 35's team won the inaugural Mor Oil Over 35's Masters League on Thursday night after they struck for a late winner in the final to record a 2-1 win over West Utd at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Ollie Keogh came closest to opening the scoring on the half hour mark when his well struck effort beat West goalkeeper Noel Holland but rebounded back of the inside of the post.

But Keogh wasn't to be denied and on 37 minutes he turned home Rynal Browne's corner kick delivery into the box to give Mike Shaughnessy's side a 1-0 interval lead.

Ollie Keogh came close to doubling his tally and Mervue's lead mid way through the second half but once again his effort beat Holland only to crash back of the inside of the post once again.

With Mervue failing to add to their lead West levelled matters when referee Niall Crosby awarded them a penalty on 73 minutes which Kenneth Lydon dispatched past Colin Conneely for 1-1.

With extra time looming Mervue won a free-kick just outside the box and Noel McDonnell struck a cracking effort over the wall and into the top corner past a static Colin Murphy for a late winning strike.

Well done to Mike Shaughnessy and his squad on becoming the first ever winners of the Galway Masters League.
