Both Junior Teams Off to Winning Starts   26/08/2018

Maree/Oranmore 1-4 Mervue Utd A (Premier Division)

The Junior A team started the Premier Division season on a winning note as they recorded an excellent 4-1 away win in Maree on Sunday afternoon.

All four goals arrived in the opening half as Enda Curran scored twice with Paul Healy and Shane Keogh adding further goals for a 4-0 interval lead.

Enda Curran opened the scoring with a half volley into the corner after 15 minutes before he then set up Paul Healy for the second as he pulled the ball back for a tap in for the midfielder to make it 2-0. Jason Molloy did well beating a couple of Maree/Oranmore defenders before delivering a perfect cross for Enda Curran to head home his second of the afternoon.

A cracking strike from the left foot of Shane Keogh made it four as the full back's powerfully effort nestled in the top corner just before the break as they completly dominated the opening half.

The home side did pull a goal back after the break as Peter Greaney fired home before full back Colin Thornton then missed a penalty striking Colm Power's right hand post with the ball cleared to safety. Sub Lee Keogh should of added a fifth as Barry Moran played him in shortly after his arrival on the pitch but the home keeper saved his effort and Jason Molloy also nearly added a fifth with a deft lob but the keeper back peddled well to recover the ball before it dropped into the net.

They now host Premier Division newcomers, Merlin Woods/Medtronic, at Fahy's Field on Wednesday night with kick-off at 6.30 pm.

Mervue Utd B 5-2 Moyne Villa (First Division)

The Junior B team kick-off their season in the First Division with an excellent 5-2 win over Moyne Villa at Fahy's Field on Sunday morning.

Young Adam Healy was the star of the game as he struck a hat-trick after Alan Hanley had opened the score with an early strike while Shane McNamara was also on the mark as the first half produced a six goal thriller.

Alan Hanley scored the opener with a cool finish past the visiting keeper after just four minutes and Adam Healy fired home a free-kick for his first and then finished well for his second of the game. The young winger then finished a good move with a great delivery for striker Shane McNamara to head home a fourth to lead 4-2 at the break.

Young Healy completed his hat-trick with a cracking volley as he struck from just inside the box for the only score of the second half late in the game.
