U-16 Connacht Cup Champions 2016

Mervue Utd’s U-16 team were crowned provincial champions last Saturday afternoon as they came from a goal down to defeat Castlebar Celtic in the final with two late goals at Shiven Rovers grounds in Newbridge.

A goal down at the break Damien Brennan and Seamie Rabbitte’s side produced a dramatic late finish to the game as first Wilson Waweru smashed home a cracking effort to level matters with just four minutes remaining as extra time looked on the cards at that stage.

Just two minutes later Wilson Waweru and Ronan Manning combined for Manning to play a perfect ball into the box as left back Calym Crowe arrived to match the quality of the previous goal with another cracking finish to win the game and send the Mervue supporters wild.

After the game Mervue captain Eoin Broderick was presented with the Connacht Cup as the club reclaimed the title last won in 2013.

Well done to Damien Brennan, Seamie Rabbitte and their young squad on a well deserved win.
